Paul BaiocchiThe American Association of Insurance Services is a product development resource for insurance providers who need responsive, innovative information services.

With decades of expertise in product development, actuarial analysis, and regulatory filings, AAIS is now a recognized leader in insurance product research and design.

AAIS continually introduces new programs and product innovations that respond to the dynamics of the insurance marketplace, as well as new services that make AAIS programs among the most cost-effective and easy to use.

AAIS

In the 35 years since AAIS was organized as a multiline advisory organization, we have grown significantly, both in our line of products and services, and in the number of insurers we serve. We currently offer:

  • Programs of forms, rules, and rating information for 24 lines of personal, commercial, farm and inland marine insurance

  • Statistical reporting plans for those lines, plus auto

  • Support services for custom product development, state filings, actuarial analysis, automation, and training--all available to help companies adopt and use AAIS programs

A unique challenge

AAIS staff specialists thoroughly understand the unique challenges of insurance product development and maintenance.

Insurers need products that are both familiar and new. Policy forms must use commonly accepted language, yet keep pace with the latest regulatory directives, court rulings, and market demands.

Our job is to strike a balance between innovation and standardization; to make sure that our programs meet changing expectations while staying within established parameters. We ratify emerging practices as standard of coverage; we don't dictate standards from some "ivory tower." We lead and follow at the same time.

By adhering to those maxims, we've seen our Homeowners, Businessowners, and monoline programs accepted as standard, while other AAIS programs--Agricultural General Liability, Agricultural Output, Artisans, Farmowners, Inland Marine, and Commercial Output--set standards in those areas.

Our product philosophy

When designing and maintaining our programs, AAIS adheres to a series of principles that comprise our product philosophy:

  • Coverages must be adaptable to a diverse array of risks within a market, giving underwriters the most flexibility possible to modify provisions, determine sublimits, and exclude exposures for each individual risk.

  • Programs must be structured to allow easy customization for unique company needs.

  • Forms must be designed to be packaged with other AAIS or non-AAIS forms so companies can freely choose the best combinations for insureds.

  • Rating and other aspects of programs must accommodate automation and integration into company operations.

This product philosophy did not emerge from some strategic directive. It does not reside in some manual. It thrives on the daily contact we have with the people who use our programs, people who provide valuable input about the problems they face and the solutions we can provide.

No matter what capabilities we add or how much we grow, our abiding purpose is to listen to our customers and respond with solutions.
